National Centre for the Popularisation of Science and Technology in Society

The role of the National Centre for the Popularisation of Science and Technology in Society (NCP S&T), a department of the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (SCSTI), is to raise awareness of science and technology (S&T) across the whole of Slovakia as well as abroad, enhance the reputation and social standing of scientists as prime contributors to the economic well-being of the country, explain and elucidate the objectives and outcomes of research, especially within Slovakia, facilitate dialogue between scientists and the wider public and also to boost the interest of young people in science and their involvement in a scientific career.

Events and activities

Science in the CENTRE

• a science café popularising science and research – sessions involving respected representatives of Slovak science and the general public and scientific community.
   

Science Café for Young People

• presentation of hot topics in science – informal talks of respected scientists with young people.
   

Week of Science and Technology in Slovakia

• a close collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic in organising major events within the framework of the Week of S&T in Slovakia,
• operation and administration of the Week of S&T in Slovakia portal www.tyzdenvedy.sk.
   

S&T in media

• Spectrum of Science – a cycle of TV documentaries on the work and success of Slovak scientists in association with the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Slovak Radio and Television.
• radio programmes about science and technology.

• interactive and educational exhibitions on S&T.
